ABOUT THE PAINTING
Wintery scenes are perfectly suited for watercolor, as they are a chance to capitalize on the negative space in a painting, and challenge us to use different colors to express "white." The Charles River, Boston, with its footpaths and bridges, provides the perfect backdrop to paint on a snowy day. A splatter effect was used for the falling snow, to add to the chill of the scene. Reference for this painting was photography by Mike Pandolfi and was used with the photographer's permission.
